どうもがいても解決策が見つからないジレンマ［板挟み状態］、絶体絶命、お手上げ◆【語源】ジョーゼフ・ヘラー(Joseph Heller)の小説『Catch-22』（1961年）から。Catch-22はアメリカ空軍パイロットに対する軍務規則の条項名。主人公は、「精神障害にかかっていることを理由に除隊を申し出ると、『自分で自分のことを精神障害と判断できるということは精神障害ではない』と判断されて除隊を認めてもらえない」というジレンマに悩む。
