会社更生法の申請のためNOVAが閉鎖されてから早1週間。バタバタした1週間だった。
まず閉鎖された金曜のに朝一でレッスンを予約していたNOVA友からメールが来た。
「NOVA閉鎖されているよ！とりあえず今は先生たちとお茶してる。」
大学生は暇でいいな～と思いつつ私もその日は全く仕事が手に付かず、出来る限りのNOVA友と連絡を取り合い翌日の土曜日に集合した。講師も数名参加して今後について話をした。
講師は連絡先をみんなにお知らせしてそれぞれでプライベートレッスンをお願いしようってことになった。この騒動で思ったのは、日本人ってやっぱり素晴らしい！私たちだって残ポイントによって個人差はあれども被害者。でも誰一人としてそのことに嘆く人はおらず、講師たちの生活の心配をしていた。

そして今日は初のプライベートレッスン。せっかく講師を選べるのだからもちろんベテラン先生にお願いして、最近L3の推薦状をもらった生徒さんとグループ（と言っても二人だけど）になり2時間のレッスンを受けた。さすがはベテラン先生でとても充実したレッスンだった。

まず1時間目はイディオムについて。
proverbs(ことわざ)とphrasal verbs(句動詞)があるが、日常的に使われるのはphrasal verbs。
ベテラン先生が教材を準備してコピーしてきてくれた。例文を用いながら各イディオムを勉強して行った。

to let up:
　　　　　to slacken　弱まる
　　　　　to lessen in intensity　強度が減少する
　　　　　to relax or ease one's effort (also: related idiom: to take it easy)

lay off:
　　　　　to abstain from or reduce the amount of 控える、自制する
　　　　　to release or discharge from a job (also: related idiom: to let go) (S)*

(S) split - lay xxx off と分かれる事が出来る。例) let it go (但しitは常に間に入る。let go itとはならない）

bring out:
　　　　　to show or introduce (to the public) (S)
　　　　　to make available (S)

bring back:
　　　　　to return a bought or borrowed item (also: to take back) (S)
　　　　　to reintroduce

wait up for:
　　　　　to wait until late at night without going to bed

to leave alone:　　　
　　　　　not to disturb
　　　　　to stay away from (S) (aslo: to let alone)

to let alone:
　　　　　and certainly not (also: much less, not to mention) 
　　　　　例文) I'm too sick today to walk home, let alone to go to the zoo with you.
　　　　　動物園どころか歩いて帰るのも辛いぐらいだ。

to break off:
　　　　　to terminate
　　　　　to discontinue (S)

to wear off:
　　　　　to disappear gradually　
　　　　　香水の匂いが徐々に薄れていくなど。

to wear down:
　　　　　to become worn gradually through use (also: to wear away, to wear through)(S)
　　　　　洋服がが着古されるなど。wear outも同じ意味

on the whole:
　　　　　in general, in most ways (also: for the most part)
　　　　　generaly speaking, besicaly, all in all etc...

to touch and go:
　　　　　risky, uncertain until the end
　　　　　手術など緊張感のあるどっちに転ぶか分からない状態。NOVAもだね。



2時間目はDAN IN REAL LIFEのtrailerを使ってのレッスン。

DVDを持って来てくれたがポータブルDVDプレイヤーが充電不足で2分半ぐらいの内1分ぐらいで電源が落ちた。宿題にとそのDVDを渡してくれたので、自宅で観ることにした。

でもきちんとプリントを作成してくれていたのでそれを元にレッスンをした。
あらすじを確認して、評論が悪評か良評そしてさらに評論の内容を確認した。

There's nothing groundbreaking about Dan in Real Life -- it's picture that could have been made 10 or 20 years ago -- and yet its easygoing, affable nature is ecactly what makes it pleasurable.

"Dan in Only-in-the-Movies Life" would have been an awkwardly long title, but it would have been alot more appropriate.

Sweet it is. Remotely connected to real life, however, it is not.
it is not　遠くからですら現実世界とはつながっていない。

Add in a terrific soundtrack of original songs by singer-songwriter Sondre Lerche, and "Dan in Real Life" is an unexpected and very welcome treat, a crowd-pleasing mainstream comedy with the soul of an indie.

NOVAが清算に入ったら悲しいし悔しいけど、ベテラン先生に教えてもらえるから英語の勉強に関しては心配ないことがなによりかな。
